No sooner does HP announce the Mini 2140 than we get reviews from two lucky outlets who seemed to have fallen in love with the netbook. While it retains the sturdy case, ExpressCard / 54 slot, and not-quite-full-sized keyboard that reviewers loved with its predecessor, it also has the awkward, narrow touchpad and side-mounted vertical buttons. Performance is said to be on par with other Intel Atom N270 machines, and while high marks go to the larger screen, Computer Shopper says the 1024 x 576 resolution gave some smaller letters a bluish “halo” effect when compared to the Eee PC 1002HA’s 1024 x 600 screens. Also, the $30 optional six-cell battery sounds like a must-have, as that added bump gave Laptop Magazine over 7 hours of web-browsing time. Both sites are heralding this as one of the best netbooks on the market — is that enough to get your attention?

It’s been expected for months, now Asus has announced its Eee PC T91 convertible tablet ripe for a fresh Windows 7 tossing. The 2-pound (right, two!), 1-inch thick tablet features an 8.9-inch LED backlit touch panel riding atop Intel’s Z520 Atom processor. It also features a TV-tuner and built-in GPS. No other details yet but it won’t be long.

Pfff, forget those itty bitty Eee PC SSDs. Asus’ 12.2-inch mini laptop weighs less than 3-pounds and offers 8-hours of unplugged freedom with some help from Intel’s Atom Z520 processor and ASUS’ own Syper Hybrid Engine tech. Most notable is that massive (price too we expect) 512GB SSD, a world’s first in a laptop according to ASUS. No price or dates yet, expect those along side the official press release later today.

Not that we’ve never seen this phenomenon before, but Phoenix Technologies’ HyperSpace embedded OS was forgotten just about as quickly as it was introduced. Here at CES — over a year since we first heard of the software — it’s being relaunched in very much official glory. Starting today, HyperSpace for Consumers can be downloaded directly onto any laptop in two flavors: Hybrid ($59.95 annually or $149.95 for three years) or Dual ($39.95 annually or $99.95 for three years). The former taps into the virtual technology in many Intel and AMD CPUs in order to let users toggle between systems; the latter forces you to stay in one or the other. Also of note, HyperSpace for Netbooks will begin shipping on pre-fab machines in just a few months, with Acer already signed on as a partner. The full release is after the break, and check out Laptop’s hands-on at the read link.

So, how’s about some news not originating from Las Vegas? Dell has chosen today to take the wraps off of its cleanly styled Inspiron 15 notebook, and while there’s nothing here to write home about, the price accurately reflects the low-key nature of the machine. Prospective buyers will notice a 15.6-inch widescreen panel, up to 4GB of RAM / 320GB of hard drive space, an optional Blu-ray drive, integrated webcam, Intel’s Core 2 Duo powering the ship and optional Bluetooth / facial recognition software. The rig is expected to be available online later this month starting at $600, though impatient souls can find non-configurable versions right now at Best Buy (USA) and Curry’s (UK).

We don’t have a heck of a lot to go on here, but the above is apparently a new, 8.9-inch widescreen netbook from Exper called the Exper Style. It seems to boast standard netbook internals — a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and an 8GB SSD– and apparently runs Windows XP. It also costs about $470, and comes in a nearly endless range of super duper-looking colors. We’re not sure about when this one will be available, but hit the read link for a video of this darling in all its glory.

Intel’s been talking up the CE 3100 (née Canmore) processor for quite some time now, and with Adobe as its newest partner — late again Yahoo? — pushing HD Flash streams to Internet connected TV’s and set-top boxes. Frankly, we’ve already gotten quite used to YouTube and other online video access in the living room, but with the first Flash Lite-enabled system-on-a-chip due by mid-2009 and everyone and their mom watching TV on Hulu this could be the push that takes online video to the TV mainstream. Still, Intel must know that only Flash support so 2008, we’ll be expecting more widgets to come.

Why does Intel have to be so darn stubborn? First it insists on only bundling the Atom processor with their own graphics (simultaneously breaking poor NVIDIA’s heart), and then there’s whole thing where it restricts the CPU to netbooks under 10.2-inches. But like all good things, this too might someday come to an end. According to Gadget Mix, HP is currently negotiating with the chipmaker with the intent of using the processor in notebooks 13-inches and larger. This isn’t without precedent — the Dell Mini 12 is Atom powered, after all, and there is certainly a market for folks who only need a notebook for web browsing and productivity apps — but we’ll see if people are willing to sacrifice performance without gaining portability.

If it feels like forever to you since OQO’s Model 02 hit the market, your instincts are pretty darn good. But if you were overly optimistic that the Atom-powered prototype it showed off back in August (pictured) would eventually become a reality, you — sir or madam — take today’s golden crown. In a recent Digital Experience! email blasted out to media members worldwide (full blurb is after the break), we’re very clearly told that OQO will be on hand to demonstrate its new Model 2+. Said UMPC will pack a 1.86GHz Intel Atom CPU, a touchscreen OLED display, 2GB of RAM and global 3G connectivity. OQO even goes so far as to say that it will offer performance “up to twice as fast as its predecessor.” Did our heart just skip a beat over a UMPC? Why, yes it did!

Do grona producentów netbooków dołączyła firma Point of View. Jej ofertę wzbogacił model o nazwie Mobii, zbudowany w oparciu o procesor Intel Atom. Oddaje on do dyspozycji użytkowników 1 GB pamięci DDR2, ekran o przekątnej 10,2 cala oraz dysk o pojemności 160 GB. tech.wp.pl

Właśnie uzupełniają arsenał swoich laptopów do zabijania (czytaj: do gier). Z tymi parametrami model 8930-7665 zdecydowanie przejmuje dowodzenie w acerowej armii.

Oh sure, we’ve seen just how far Intel’s most potent Core i7 chip can be pushed under the most extreme conditions, but honestly, how’s that helping you? In short, it’s not. To that end, HotHardware has whipped up a useful, easy-to-digest guide on overclocking the Core i7 920, complete with benchmarks, recommendations and tips for dealing with excess heat without hooking up a liquid nitrogen tank. Interested to see how to crank a stock 920 to a level that outpaces the pricey 3.2GHz Core i7 Extreme Edition? The read link, friends — hit it.

Acer’s just updated their 8930G gaming line, adding the 8930-7665 to its arsenal. This 18.4-inch beast boasts Intel’s new (and surprisingly affordable) Core 2 Quad Mobile Q9000 CPU, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 500GB 7200 SATA hard drive, and NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT graphics with 512MB of dedicated video memory. Other than that, it’s identical to previous 8930G models. Sure, it’s a little extreme, but hey — why not? It’s available now, if you’re willing to drop $1800.

MSI’s officially launched the U115 Hybrid netbook we saw not too long ago, which can operate both SSD and HDD drives at the same time. The 10-inch (1024 x 600 resolution) laptop primarily uses the SSD, reserving the HDD for storage, and boasts an “Eco Mode” button which will temporarily disconnect the HDD to save power. The hybrid functions should provide both a faster OS and longer battery life — but we’ll wait till the test results are in to form our opinions. If you’ve forgotten, spec-wise the U115’s got a 1.60GHz Intel Atom CPU, up to 2GB of DDR2 RAM, plus 8GB SSD / 80GB HDD, 16GB SSD / 120GB HDD, and 32GB SSD / 160GB HDD storage options, and a 2 megapixel webcam. No word on pricing or release date for this bad boy yet. We’ll keep our eyes peeled.
